Frequently Asked Questions

Where is this year's Festival located?

This year's Alma Highland Festival will be hosted on the campus of Alma College. We cannot wait to welcome you back to Scotland, USA!

Why was the Festival at the Alma High School instead of the Alma College?

Due to many different factors on and around Alma College's campus, the Alma Highland Festival and Games was hosted on the grounds of Alma High School in 2022 and 2023, all with keeping a strong partnership with Alma College and the City of Alma. From green space to parking to needs for all organizations involved, the move to Alma High's campus was thought over long and hard. We as the Festival Board are grateful for the continued support of this great event, regardless of its location!

What color wristbands are used for each day this year?

For 2024, all wristbands are the same color (orange) and will be the same wristband used all weekend long. One ticket, one great experience!

What accessibility accommodations are there?

-Handicap parking has priority availability on the corner of Superior Street and Grant Avenue, in front of the Heritage Center.
-Handicap accessible restrooms are available across campus: buildings and portable alike.
-GrassMat flooring is laid out across grassy areas to help visitors with wheels of any kind or those needing more stable ground get from one area to the next safely.
-Gates 2, 4, and 5 would be best for access for dropping off near if parking is not an option.
-Need help getting from place to place? Please flag a volunteer in a golf cart! We have a number of golf carts that are working vehicles, but most are for accommodating our guests and getting them around the Festival!

When is the next Alma Highland Festival and Games scheduled?

The official 55th Alma Highland Festival and Games is now scheduled for May 24, 25, & 26, 2024.

Are Pets Allowed?

Yes! Dogs are allowed for this year's event. Each owner will need to fill out paperwork at the Gate along with paying a $5 entry for each pet.

Please note: we are limiting access to dogs only at this time. All other animals will not be permitted.

We are following ADA protocol and our guidelines are from this site: https://www.ada.gov/topics/service-animals/.

Can I pay at the gate?

Yes, of course! At this time, we accept cash and local check at the gate as well as credit card by Square. You can always contact our office if you need more information.

Am I allowed to bring in
my own food and drink?

Snacks and beverages are permitted on Festival grounds; however, you may not bring your own alcohol.

What about weather?

Our policy is, and always has been, that "the Festival must go on!" This means you may want to pack some rain gear and sunscreen because we will continue rain or shine.

When is the parade?

The parade begins at 10:30 am sharp on Saturday and  travels from the corner of Pine Avenue and Superior Street to head west Downtown to pass Alma College and conclude at the corner of Charles Avenue and Superior Street. You're welcome to bring a lawn chair for your comfort.

Where can I park?

There is plenty of parking around the Festival and its grounds. Handicapped parking is available on the corner of Superior Street and Grant Avenue in front of the Heritage Center.  The Official Festival Parking Lots are located all around campus at the cost of $10. There will be signs.  The City of Alma has many free parking lots downtown. (Please keep in mind "No Parking" signs and "Fire Lane" signs as these are means to have your vehicle towed.)
