Each year the Festival crowns a Queen of Scots, two Court members, and a Wee Queen of Scots through a process that includes an application, interview by local personnel, and a pageant that is more focused on how each young lady holds herself in front of others and is able to speak publicly.
In order to have participated, Queen candidates were Gratiot County residents or attended school in Gratiot County or were direct relatives of past or current Festival Board members and were confirmed to be between 17-20 years of age by time of pageant. Wee Queen candidates were also Gratiot County residents or attended school in Gratiot County or direct relatives of past or current Festival Board members and were confirmed to be between 8-11 years of age by time of pageant to participate.
The Queen of Scots receives a $1500 scholarship to the school of her choice with the 1st Runner-Up and 2nd Runner-Up also receiving $500 each to the schools of their choice.
The Wee Queen of Scots receives a $100 scholarship in addition to her title and crown.
